SENIOR FITNESS

55+ Fitness & Yoga Classes

Fitness classes for the community & members ages 55+
These 40 – 50 minute classes held three times per week are designed specifically to increase muscle strength, enhance range of motion, realign and define body shape, improve posture, increase blood circulation, improve flexibility & balance or to specifically instruct yoga movements and positions. Pre-registration is not necessary – just join us at the Recreation Center. Bring your Recreation Photo ID to receive the reduced rate. This class is subsidized by Washoe County senior funding.

Summer Moonlight Hikes & Wine and Cheese Social

These moderate 1 mile paved road hikes to the Crystal Bay lookout are part of the senior wellness program offered by the Incline Village Parks & Recreation Department and Washoe County Senior Services. First Aid/CPR trained guides accompany hikers and an ADA compliant shuttle to the lookout is available upon request for mobility challenged participants. Enjoy the views, friends, fun, wine and cheese. Participants are encouraged to bring a camera, flashlight and to wear warm clothing. All hikes are weather dependent. Meet in the Recreation Center Lobby at least 15 minutes prior to the departure time.

55+ Take-A-Hike

This hiking activity is part of the senior wellness program. We will be offering guided hikes this summer to beautiful areas near the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. Bring a day pack, sunscreen, plenty of water and a lunch – we will provide the guide and transportation (for the first 15 registrants). Guides are certified in First Aid/CPR. Get a great workout and meet new friends while taking in the local scenery. A minimum of 8 participants are needed for each hike. Hikes will not take place in inclement weather. Check in at the Rec. Center Lobby at 10:00 am. Please call (775) 832-1310 after May 17th for details and to register.

S.T.E.P. Out

Join us for the S.T.E.P. (Senior Transportation Excursion Program) Out program as we take bold steps and travel to various destinations in Lake Tahoe and the surrounding areas. Through funding available for our Senior Transportation Program from IVGID, Washoe County, RTC and NDOT, we will be embarking on field trips and seeing the various sites, events and entertainment opportunities in our area. Conversation Café

Conversation Café is a free, hosted, drop-in conversation in a public place, among people with diverse views and a shared passion for engaging with others. A minimal set of agreements and a simple process create the shift from "small talk" to big talk.

Bring your lunch and join us for these free, informal workshops, presentations and lectures featuring dynamic speakers sharing valuable information on pertinent senior topics.

Senior Transportation

The Senior Transportation Program, sponsored by IVGID, Washoe County NDOT and RTC provides transportation to appointments in the Village every Wednesday. The third Wednesday of each month we provide trips to Truckee and Kings Beach and alternating trips to Reno and Carson City for shopping or personal appointments are available every Tuesday. 24 hour advance reservations are required and can be made by calling (775) 832-1310. Minimum donation: $3 plus $.50 per additional destination. On demand transportation is available to Reno, Carson City and Truckee for a roundtrip fee of $25 per person with advance notice.

AARP Safe Driver Course - NEW SHORTER CLASS!

Find out how to adjust your driving to age related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time in this AARP course. Course completion will result in insurance discounts from all Nevada based insurance companies (discounts are determined by individual insurance carrier and based on insured’s driving record).

Incliners

Ages: 49+

The Incliners is a social organization for those in the community who are over 49 years. They meet twice per month, hosting dinners, special events and theme parties. A potluck dinner is on the 1st Tuesday of each month and a catered event is on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Reservations are required. For more information, call (775) 832-1310.

LIFELONG LEARNING

Saturdays at SNC

Sierra Nevada College (SNC) and Incline Village Parks & Recreation Senior Programs once again joins forces to bring you another Lifelong Learning opportunity! Share your Saturday morning coffee with SNC’s faculty and local experts as they present bite size offerings of intellectually stimulating course material. An optional continental breakfast will be provided for $3. Open to the public.

Free Courses at Sierra Nevada College (SNC)

The SNC (Sierra Nevada College)/IVGID Lifelong Learning Program allows those with IVGID passes over the age of 60 to register in up to three fall or spring undergraduate courses at SNC on a non-degree seeking basis.
 
The classes are free of charge; however, there is a $35 administrative fee per unit ($105/3 unit class) and you will also be responsible for books, activity, lab & parking fees. Each participant will be requested to provide feedback to SNC and IVGID at the end of the class.
 
Seniors can register for classes at the Office of the Registrar on the second floor of David Hall on the SNC campus (999 Tahoe Blvd.) with your photo ID. There is a limit of 3 seniors per class.
 
Fall Classes begin on Monday, August 23rd. Seniors can register for classes on Friday, August 20th from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. For more information, please call (775) 831-1314 x7435 or visit www.sierranevada.edu.

Fireside Chats and Forum Discussions

Join us for coffee and dessert as host Andrew Whyman delves into the lives of amazing people with amazing stories up close and personal. Fireside Chats will introduce you, first hand, to folks who have had experiences that most of us have only read or dreamt about. This program is a concept of that grew out of Conversation Café and is in collaboration with SNC and IVGID Senior Programs. Don’t miss this Lifelong Learning collaboration!
